Since 1975 Mary Ann's paintings and prints have brought much attention to the art viewing public in Philadelphia. Having mastered a specific use of light and positioning of the figure, she establishes a mood that makes a bold, exotic and suggestive statement. Through her aesthetics, she expresses the assertive and sensuous aspects of today's women.
To satisfy a desire for painting visual legerdemain, she produced a series of fantasy still lives involving pets, models of animals, objects d'art and fruit. This styling has surfaced more recently in the "Falling Fruit thru Clouds" series of paintings and pastels.
With cascades of color that powerfully ripen and enrich the confines of realism to the flurry of an active abstraction, she began utilizing a multitude of media on canvas and paper. In the "Exploration" series, fields of color, impasto lines of movement, glimmers of glitter and cut glass jewels come together in such a way; it makes the viewer feel as if they were traveling an opulent celestial voyage with these nu-age abstracts.
Along with the "Exploration" series, she is working on a "Resolution" series that combines realism and abstract color fields in both painting and works on paper. Sne enjoys both the challenge of combining techniques ant the selecting of various themes in mixed media.
